ELCA Action Alert: Urge U.S. Involvement at Global Climate Talks
The United States is missing from important climate talks - leaving our global neighbors without a vital partner in caring for creation. Take action today!
From Nov. 10-21, 2025, global leaders gather in Brazil for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) and the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement. COP30 will be a pivotal moment for countries to renew commitments to limit global warming and to ensure care and resilience for communities most impacted by climate change.
“According to Genesis 2:15, our role within creation is to serve and to keep God’s garden, the earth,” reads the ELCA social statement Caring for Creation: Vision, Hope, and Justice. Our wellbeing is bound together with that of our global neighbors, and these negotiations invite the United States to act faithfully and justly in response to its share of the global climate burden.
Together, let us call on our elected leaders to renew U.S. participation and engagement with the Paris Agreement —walking in accompaniment with those most affected by climate changes and working toward justice throughout all creation.
Our faithful action today helps remind our leaders that the United States must stand with, not apart from, the global family of creation.
Just because the Government is shut down, and Congress is not in session, doesn’t mean your legislators can’t take calls and consider their decisions about the future of our country. As the House of Representatives aspires to schedule a late committee vote at the end of October, assuming they’re back in session, they need to know your thoughts and feelings!
What are you seeing in your community? You are encouraged to customize your message to reflect your own voice and values as you share your concerns with your legislators.
THANK YOU for your faithful advocacy!
