Happy Tuesday, advocates! This week, we are highlighting a voting-related bill for your consideration. This bill has already passed the House of Representatives and is currently going through the committee process in the Senate. Since this bill is active and have traction, your input is more valuable than ever!

HB2547 (oppose)— This bill would ban the use of voting centers in our state. A voting center differs from a traditional precinct because it is not location based; this allows anyone from within the jurisdiction to vote at a voting center. This is possible because of our digitized voter roles. Some counties, like Maricopa, have transitioned fully to the voting center model, and others still provide location specific precincts in addition to voting centers. Voting centers make the process of voting much easier and more streamlined, by allowing folks to vote wherever is easiest and closest for them, instead of adding the stress of finding, making it to, and waiting in line at precincts. The voting center method is widely approved of and has no links to election fraud, and banning them would create more work for voting jurisdictions. It is also likely to create logistic problems for both areas of high populations density and rural areas, and election offices have sited concerns over being able to recruit enough poll workers to staff the precinct based model. Since voting centers are an important and beloved part of voting access in our state, we are opposed to this bill. You can read the full bill text here.
