Refugee Resettlement Forum at Ascension Lutheran Church

  • Ascension Lutheran Church 7100 North Mockingbird Lane Paradise Valley, AZ, 85253 United States (map)

What is a refugee and how does the resettlement process work?

Did you know that most refugees who resettle in the United States have completed 10 years of vetting? And did you know that refugees receive a loan from the U.S. government for their airfare and initial housing costs which requires repayment to begin 6 months after arriving?

Ascension Lutheran Church will host a community forum on Thursday, March 10th from 1:00 – 2:30 pm to explain the requirements for refugee status and the process of resettlement. A panel from Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest will lead this informational event. The panel will include Connie Phillips - President and CEO, Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest, Charlotte Shurtz - Faith and Community Engagement Coordinator, Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest, and Solveig Muus - Director, Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona.

Join us in the sanctuary at Ascension for this educational opportunity to learn more about refugees and the resettlement process. There will be opportunities for Q&A provided. Please RSVP for this event via Ascension’s website at www.alcpv.org or by calling the office at (480) 948-6050.
