ELCA Advocacy visits Arizona legislators on Capitol Hill

Last month, the Washington, D.C.-based ELCA Advocacy team encouraged us to write letters to our Arizona legislators inviting them to visit ministry sites in their districts that have programs for people experiencing homelessness. Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest invited Rep. Greg Stanton to visit Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-HELP) at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ, and New Spirit Lutheran Church in Tucson invited Rep. Juan Ciscomani to visit their Homeless Blessings program. Next Hill visit will include bringing invitations to from Desert Cross Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church to visit their homeless ministry programs.

These invitations, along with fabric patches representative of the The Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project were delivered personally by ELCA advocates to their offices on Capitol Hill!

Pictured are Director of Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania, Tracey DePasquale, ELCA Program Director for Housing and Human Needs, Andrew Fuller, ELCA Contractor for Environmental Policy, Christine Moffett, and ELCA World Hunger Fellow, Kayla Zopfi, spending Wednesday afternoon on the Hill, and more invitations will be delivered in coming days.

A few offices visited include Senator John Fetterman (PA), Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ), Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA), Rep. Greg J. Stanton (AZ), Rep. Jennifer Wexton (VA), and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA).
