Arizona Faith Leaders’ Statement and COVID-19 Vaccine Pledge
As people of faith, we know caring for our neighbor is essential to both our spiritual and physical well-being. Throughout the last year our neighbors have been hurting. We have watched as over 700,000 Arizonans became ill and have witnessed over 12,000 lives lost to COVID-19. This deadly virus continues to threaten the lives and livelihoods of our friends and family, members and colleagues, parishioners and communities.
Our faith traditions tell us that God, as understood in each of our traditions, is deeply concerned with the well-being of all in our communities and that when one person suffers we all suffer. That is why we gather together and pledge to do our part to care for our neighbor.
We, as a coalition of faith leaders representing a variety of spiritual traditions across Arizona, unite for the common good. We believe that this common good is achieved by each person getting vaccinated when it is their time to do so. We also believe that, as people of faith, it is our moral duty to continue to take the necessary precautions such as wearing masks and social distancing.
As faithful people, we have spent many hours praying that our health care workers remain safe and that our scientists would find a cure for this virus. Our prayers have been answered through the development of revolutionary vaccine treatments, which have now become available across our state and country. We affirm that science and knowledge are truly gifts from God and this vaccine is a gift from God. We are grateful for this gift from the Almighty.
As a faith leader and/or person of faith, we invite you to pledge below to become vaccinated when the vaccination is available to you. As leaders of Arizona, your pledge to get the COVID-19 vaccine could show our communities that the vaccines are indeed a vital safety measure for ourselves and our loved ones.
Furthermore, we humbly request that the Biden administration provides greater access to the vaccine supply to our state, so that all Arizonans are able to receive the vaccine quickly.
While the communities in our great state have suffered deeply during this pandemic, we are reminded today that we do not suffer alone. Please help care for your neighbor, sign the pledge to get vaccinated below.
