LAMA Joins Local Partners in Letter Supporting the Child Tax Credit

Last week, the Lutheran Advocacy Ministry of Arizona joined with community partners from the Children’s Action Alliance to sign a letter addressed to Senators Sinema and Kelly, advocating for an expansion of the Child Tax Credit (CTC). We were one of twenty-one Arizona organizations who endorsed the letter, sharing the importance of this policy and encouraging our Senators to support the bi-partisan initiative.

We have shared quite a bit of information on the CTC over the last year, as this program has been shown to have a tangible effect on struggling families; click here to find all of our blog posts on Child Welfare and learn more about the important details of this tax policy. Last time the CTC was introduced, childhood poverty was cut in half— the largest drop in our nation’s history.

Last month, the House of Representatives voted to expand and reinstate the CTC, and since then, our advocacy has been focused on the Senate.

We are happy to join with so many community organizations, including the Arizona Center for Economic Progress, interfaith groups, and groups dedicated to children’s rights and family support. This letter outlines the need for the expanded CTC, detailing the ways that financial security supports children’s development and wellbeing, and urges Arizona’s Senators to support this critical piece of legislation. Read it below!

Join us in our advocacy by contacting Sen. Sinema’s office and Sen. Kelly’s office and urging them to support the Child Tax Credit.
