Congratulate and thank your legislators!

Be it a Christmas or Chanukah card, or a simple Congratulations on Your Election note, now is the perfect time to build a bridge with your legislators.

If your candidate won, “Congratulations on your election, I was rooting for you all the way!” is appropriate. If the other candidate won, “Congratulations on your election, I look forward to working with you in the coming legislative session” is appropriate. Regardless, it’s okay to write, “I’m praying for you, and for your family, and for all your colleagues, that you may work effectively together for the benefit of all Arizonans.

We recommend that you thank them for their service, and acknowledge that public service in today’s climate is not easy. It takes courage, and commitment, and you’re grateful they’re doing often difficult, tedious, and thankless work.

Be sure to tell your legislator that you’re affiliated with Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Arizona, and that you hope to see them at Lutheran Day at the Legislature on Monday, February 10.

It’s best to make a connection with your legislators now, before the new legislative session starts, when they will surely be distracted by other things.
