LAMA director Solveig Muus and Hunger Advocacy Fellow Autumn Byars were delighted to visit Faith La Fe Lutheran Church in Phoenix this Sunday.

Faith Le Fe was the first church to welcome Solveig for a visit right after our office’s opening. The congregation has a long history of service and advocacy within their community, and has eagerly been a LAMA supporter since the very beginning.

Solveig and Autumn attended the 9:00 am worship service, led by Pastor Jonathan Linman, who preached on reclaiming the gospel in a world that very badly needs our good news. Perfect for advocacy! Afterward, Solveig led a Forum during the coffee hour. During the Forum, Solveig and Autumn updated Faith La Fe on what the LAMA office has been doing since our last visit two years ago. Attendees brought questions on topics like LAMA’s engagement with partner organizations, how advocacy can strengthen ministries like food banks, and on the best ways to get involved.

Autumn also officially announced LAMA’s 2023-2024 Policy Priorities (attend the LAMA Summit to find out what they are! or read the blog post about it) and attendees were invited to sign up for our email list and fill out request to speak forms. Solveig informed everyone about Lutheran Day at the Legislature (Jan. 18!) and invited Faith La Fe to participate.

After coffee, Solveig and Autumn attended the 11 am Spanish service and greatly enjoyed the music! Pastor Linman invited Solveig to give a quick Temple Talk on LAMA’s mission and to introduce Autumn. Afterward, the two attended the Convivio dinner and got a chance to meet more of the congregation, including youth!

Faith La Fe members registering for Request to Speak accounts and signing up for the LAMA newsletter, encouraged by Autumn Byars.

Thank you so much to Faith La Fe Lutheran for hosting us! We had a wonderful time getting to connect with you! Special thank you to congregational liaisons Gail Turner and Chris Jacobson for coordinating our visit. We missed Pastor Verónica Alvarez!

If you would like to host a LAMA Kick-Off event at your church, please email our office.
