HB2060 Passes Arizona House of Representatives Unamended

Great news! HB2060, the Food Assistance bill that LAMA is championing this session, passed the Arizona House of Representatives—UNAMENDED—on Thursday, February 24! The vote was 44-15. If you’d like to see how your representatives voted, click on the “Show House THIRD” button on the HB2060 Overview page.

The fact that the bill passed unamended is a huge win. It means that all of the barriers to SNAP access for people with prior drug use/possession felony convictions would be eliminated, including random drug testing. (Note: Individuals will still need to comply with probation and any probation-related drug testing, as applicable.) Here’s the bill language and Arizona Food Bank Network’s fact sheet, for reference.

HB2060 now moves on to the Arizona State Senate, where it will have a more challenging road. It’s exciting to see the bill LAMA supported get this far—thanks in large part to all of you! Our friends at Arizona Food Bank Network will keep it moving for as long as they can - watch this space to learn when it’s time to connect with your state senators.
