With great courage, Tribal leaders have called for the protection of this sacred place through designation as a national monument. We humbly stand behind these leaders and ask that you listen to the voice of Hopi, Havasupai, and other Tribal leaders who claim this land as sacred and support their leadership and efforts to protect this wondrous sanctuary by establishing the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument.

Dear President Biden and Administration,

As Arizonans and people of faith, we strongly believe in the “Green Rule” and believe it should be followed to protect one of our greatest natural and spiritual treasures: The Grand Canyon. 

Just as the “Golden Rule” calls for us to not only examine our own actions towards others in our lives but also the wider communal systems and services to ensure they are just; the “Green Rule” calls us to not only care for the environment ourselves but to work for broader communal political policies and practices to protect sacred land.

Here in Arizona, according to many beliefs, there is no more widely known and sacred place than the Grand Canyon. The Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. It is a critically important watershed that provides millions of people with water and serves as home to an incredibly diverse mix of plants and wildlife.

Despite a 20-year moratorium on uranium mining in 2012, new claims threaten the Canyon and its surrounding lands. The only way to truly protect it is to follow the “Green Rule,” which means we must permanently protect this wonder of creation.

Estimado Presidente Biden y Administración

Como ciudadanos de Arizona y personas de fe, creemos firmemente en la "Regla Verde" y creemos que debería seguirse para proteger uno de nuestros mayores tesoros naturales y espirituales: El Gran Cañón.

Al igual que la "Regla de Oro" nos pide que no sólo examinemos nuestras propias acciones hacia los demás en nuestras vidas, sino también los sistemas y servicios comunitarios más amplios para asegurarnos de que son justos; la "Regla Verde" nos pide que no sólo cuidemos nosotros mismos del medio ambiente, sino que trabajemos por políticas y prácticas comunitarias más amplias para proteger la tierra sagrada.

Aquí en Arizona, según muchas creencias, no hay lugar más conocido y sagrado que el Gran Cañón. El Cañón es una de las Siete Maravillas Naturales del Mundo. Es una cuenca hidrográfica de importancia crítica que abastece de agua a millones de personas y sirve de hogar a una mezcla increíblemente diversa de plantas y vida salvaje.

A pesar de que en 2012 se decretó una moratoria de 20 años para la extracción de uranio, nuevas explotaciones amenazan el Cañón y sus tierras circundantes. La única forma de protegerlo de verdad es seguir la "Regla Verde", lo que significa que debemos proteger permanentemente esta maravilla de la creación.

Con gran valentía, los líderes tribales han pedido la protección de este lugar sagrado mediante su designación como monumento nacional. Respaldamos humildemente a estos líderes y les pedimos que escuchen la voz de los Hopi, Havasupai y otros líderes tribales que reclaman esta tierra como sagrada y apoyen su liderazgo y sus esfuerzos para proteger este maravilloso santuario mediante el establecimiento del Monumento Nacional del Gran Cañón Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni.
