Urge Sen. Sinema to help end global malnutrition

After months of advocacy efforts, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed the Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act (H.R.4693). This win is a testament that your advocacy work is making an impact in the fight against global hunger.

H.R.4693 passed the U.S. House; now it is in the Senate (S.2956). Sen. Mark Kelly has co-sponsored the bill. Now it’s time to urge Sen. Kyrsten Sinema to sign on.

This legislation will bolster the federal government’s efforts to address global malnutrition, particularly as the world continues to respond to the war in Ukraine and the ongoing global food crisis.

Email Sen. Kyrsten Sinema today!

The Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act is at its final stage of becoming law. All that remains is passage by the full Senate and signing by the President. Therefore, please urge your senators to support this critical legislation to protect the lives of millions through good nutrition programs and policy.

SAMPLE LETTER (We suggest you cut, rephrase, etc. to make it your own!)

Malnutrition is preventable. I urge you to co-sponsor the Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act of 2021 (H.R. 4693/S. 2956) – especially now that H.R. 4693 has passed from the House to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. As you determine funding priorities for the fiscal year 2023 Foreign Operations and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, I also ask that you increase global nutrition funding to $300 million. The bipartisan Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act of 2021 will authorize USAID to advance targeted programs to prevent and treat malnutrition around the world; ensure an elevated focus on nutrition programs across global health, food systems, and other sectors; and require robust monitoring of these interventions to ensure the effective use of taxpayer dollars. An additional 13.9 million children are expected to be severely malnourished by next year. Approximately 811 million people are facing hunger across the globe, erasing years of progress. Investing in nutrition saves lives, creates stability, and is economically smart; for every $1 invested there is an estimated $35 in economic return. Targeted interventions protect the nutrition of women and children during the critical 1000-day period between a woman's pregnancy and her child's second birthday and are essential for ensuring the development of children's physical and mental health. As a Christian, I am called to love and care for my neighbors wherever they are. Every human being is made in God's image and carries a sacred dignity and immeasurable worth (Genesis 1:27). I urge you to co-sponsor H.R. 4693/S. 2956 and increase global nutrition funding to $300 million.

Thank you for all you do to help end hunger!
