AFN Action Alert: Protect Arizona’s Sacred and Public Lands

Public Lands Project

Our partners at Arizona Faith Network have shared an action alert, complete with a one-click letter, urging Arizona officials to protect our public lands.

Our public lands are an important part of Arizona culture; they are repositories of our shared heritage, repositories of natural beauty, and spiritual sanctuaries. These lands hold deep cultural and spiritual significance for Indigenous peoples, serving as vital links to their ancestral past and providing spaces for prayer, ceremony, and connection with the divine.

Genesis tasks us with caring for God’s creation— to grow with and sustain it, not just to extract from it. We are concerned by recent legislative efforts to undermine the protection of these precious landscapes. By diminishing safeguards for public lands, we risk desecrating sacred sites, disrupting vital ecosystems, and eroding the foundation of our collective heritage.

The letter urges lawmakers to oppose several bills that would change the way public lands are handled, including HCM2007,  which would urge the President to repeal the recent designation of the Grand Canyon Footprints National Monument in Northern Arizona and oppose any such designation in the state of Arizona in the future.
