Happy Earth Day: America Is All In

It’s a day to celebrate. This morning at the Leaders Climate Summit, President Biden announced the US is setting a goal of 50-52% emissions reduction by 2030 below 2005 levels.

It wouldn’t have been possible without the work of many institutions over these last years. It would have been unthinkable for an administration to set this ambitious goal even 5 years ago. What’s almost as encouraging as the target itself, the official fact sheet from the White House very clearly recognizes the role of members of this coalition.

The target builds on leadership from mayors, county executives, governors, tribal leaders, businesses, faith groups — including the ELCA — cultural institutions, healthcare organizations, investors, and communities who have worked together tirelessly to ensure sustained progress in reducing pollution in the United States.

Below is the statement on behalf of America Is All In. Also available is a social toolkit and rapid response messaging.

America is All In is the successor of We Are Still In (WASI) which was formed when former President Trump began the process to pull the U.S. out the Paris Agreement. Effective February 19, 2021 the U.S. is back in the Paris Agreement. We Are Still In was relaunched on February 19, 2021 as America is All In. America is All In is a coalition of “U.S. cities, states, tribal nations, businesses, schools, and faith, health, and cultural institutions, the coalition is working alongside the federal government to develop a national climate strategy that meets the urgency of the climate crisis, scaling climate action around the country to empower workers and communities, and promoting the leadership of non-federal actors on the world stage.”

The Episcopal Church (represented by Bishop Marc Andrus) and ELCA (represented by Ruth Ivory-Moore) are the two faith entities that sit as members of the Advisory Committee of America Is All In.
