Young Voices in the Public Sphere: A Call Towards Election Engagement

LAMA’s Hunger Advocacy Fellow Autumn Byars will be leading June’s Abide group for young adults! This small group, for participants between the ages of 18 and 35, will focus on voter engagement and election preparedness as ways to live out our faith.

What is Abide?

Abide is a ministry of the ELCA Young Adult Ministries. These small group sessions are run by and for young adults, usually in four-week increments. Topics span a wide range of subjects, pertaining to one of three areas: theological/spiritual practice based discussions, advocacy/justice trainings or discussions, and fellowship and fun groups. . Any young adult who wishes to host an Abide group submits a proposal and interested participants are invited to register. Young adults from across the country are welcome to join these small groups! June 2024: Young Voices in the Public Sphere

As the November election inches ever closer, ELCA Advocacy and ELCA Young Adult Ministries have teamed up to engage young voters in our church. We want to help orient young adults voting in this election by offering them resources specific to them and their questions.

June’s Abide group was born from this partnership. Kayla Zopfi, Young Adult Networks Coordinator, along with Hunger Advocacy Fellows and other Advocacy staff have put together a four-week exploration of the intersection between voting and faith. Each meeting will explore a different theme relating to scripture and civic engagement. The team has built time into each session for participants to ask questions and discuss concerns related to this election. Leaders will also offer assistance to young folks who need help registering to vote, finding local voting information, or developing their voting plans.

Our own Autumn Byars and Kayla Zopfi will be hosting this Abide group on Thursday nights through June at 5:30 pm MST.

If you are a young adult who is interested in this group, sign up today! The Zoom meeting link will be sent after registration.
