“God does not call us to change the whole world, but to change what we can for each other.”
Guest blog by Jan Fosen, Lord of Life Lutheran Church
On February 21st and 22nd, Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West had the privilege of hosting Feed My Starving Children, which we have done annually for several years now. The Lord of Life fellowship hall is transformed into a huge workroom, where more than 850 volunteers from our church, neighboring churches and friends come together to volunteer to prepare packs of food, called “Manna Packs,” to feed starving children in 3rd world countries.
I had the joyous opportunity to volunteer on Friday afternoon.
The whole atmosphere is filled with upbeat, happy, thankful people of all ages ready to serve. The music played is upbeat (made me want to dance,) and each table has boxes of dried rice, soy, a veggie mix and vitamins, manna pack bags, a funnel, a scale to weigh each bag, a sealer and boxes that will each hold 36 manna packs. Each table is “manned” by about 8-10 people who cheer loudly when a box is filled!
So far, Lord of Life has sent over 1,000.000 meals to FMSC, which have been sent to starving children in 3rd world countries, and now we are working towards the 2,000,000 mark!
This past weekend we had 850 volunteers, filling 178,848 manna packs, which will feed 489 children for 1 year! We also reached our goal of raising $50,000 to be sent to FMSC!
I look forward to volunteering next year! It truly fills my heart with joy and gratitude to God!
